Jaslok Hospital Introduces Advanced Scarless Endoscopic Mastectomy Offering Immediate Breast Reconstruction Excellence

Jaslok Hospital Performs Western India’s First Scarless Endoscopic Mastectomy with Immediate Reconstruction

In a landmark achievement for breast cancer treatment, Jaslok Hospital and Research Centre, Mumbai, has successfully performed Western India’s first and India’s second Scarless Endoscopic Skin- and Nipple-Sparing Mastectomy (E-NSM) with immediate breast reconstruction. This revolutionary procedure signifies a major step toward delivering cancer care that prioritises both oncological safety and aesthetic preservation for young patients.

A Young Patient’s Complex Diagnosis

The patient, a 27-year-old woman, initially presented with a large 4–5 cm breast lump. Chemotherapy was initiated to reduce the size of the tumor, but further genetic evaluation revealed that she was BRCA-positive, greatly increasing her lifetime cancer risk. Given her age, emotional vulnerability, and the long-term implications of her diagnosis, the medical team advised an approach that ensured complete cancer clearance without compromising her appearance or confidence.

Why Scarless Endoscopic Mastectomy Was Chosen

Conventional mastectomy typically requires a 10–12 cm incision across the breast, often leaving a prominent and emotionally distressing scar. To address this concern, the surgical team recommended the Endoscopic Skin- and Nipple-Sparing Mastectomy, a minimally invasive technique that uses a very small 3–4 cm incision placed discreetly along the lateral chest wall. This placement hides the scar away from the breast mound and allows surgeons to operate with exceptional precision.

A Technique Designed for Safety and Aesthetic Excellence

Using advanced endoscopic tools and magnified visualization, surgeons removed the breast tissue while preserving the natural skin envelope and nipple-areolar complex. The discreet incision ensures better sensory preservation, a natural post-operative appearance, and minimal visible scarring. Immediately after the mastectomy, the surgical team reconstructed the breast using an implant supported by TiLoop mesh, allowing the patient to retain her natural body shape.

Expert Leadership Behind the Milestone

The surgery was led by Dr. Sandip M. Bipte, Oncoplastic and Robotic Breast Surgeon at Jaslok Hospital. He emphasized that young women diagnosed with breast cancer often worry deeply about their appearance after surgery, and providing an option that preserves their sense of self is crucial. He highlighted that this achievement was made possible by the dedication of the entire team, including the vital support of Dr. Sadashiv Choudhary and the hospital’s nursing staff.

A Rapid and Smooth Recovery

The patient experienced minimal pain following the surgery and was ready for discharge just one day after the procedure, demonstrating the efficiency and safety of the scarless technique. Dr. Milind Khadke, Chief Medical Officer, noted that this breakthrough underscores Jaslok Hospital’s commitment to delivering innovative, patient-centred care with uncompromising precision and compassion.

A Patient’s Journey of Strength and Renewal

The patient, whose name has been changed to Vaibhavi, expressed deep gratitude for the care she received. She shared that while choosing surgery was one of the most challenging decisions of her life, the emotional and medical support she experienced gave her the confidence to move forward. Today, she feels not just healed but truly whole, taking pride in her recovery and restored self-image.

A New Standard in Breast Cancer Treatment

Jaslok Hospital’s successful execution of Western India’s first scarless endoscopic mastectomy with immediate reconstruction marks a defining moment in Indian surgical oncology. By combining cutting-edge technology with patient-focused aesthetics, this procedure offers a powerful solution for women seeking a future where cancer treatment does not compromise their identity, confidence, or quality of life.
