Kamla Nehru Memorial Hospital Launches State-of-the-Art Cancer Treatment Centre in Prayagraj

Kamla Nehru Memorial Hospital Launches Advanced Cancer Care Centre in Prayagraj

Prayagraj, November 2025 — In a major boost to Uttar Pradesh’s healthcare infrastructure, Kamla Nehru Memorial Hospital (KNMH) has launched a modern nuclear medicine department, marking a new chapter in advanced cancer treatment. Supported by the Dorabji Tata Trust, this cutting-edge facility aims to bring world-class oncology services closer to patients across North India

A Milestone in Cancer Diagnosis and Treatment

The newly inaugurated nuclear medicine department is equipped with a PET-CT scanner and an advanced MRI unit, both essential for early and accurate cancer detection. These systems provide high-resolution imaging that allows doctors to identify, track, and monitor cancer cells with precision.

The PET-CT scan integrates metabolic and anatomical imaging, giving oncologists a complete view of how cancer behaves inside the body. Alongside it, the MRI unit delivers detailed scans of tissues and organs, improving diagnosis without invasive procedures. Together, they elevate KNMH’s capabilities to international standards.

Transforming Cancer Care with Tata Trust’s Support

The collaboration between Kamla Nehru Memorial Hospital and the Dorabji Tata Trust began in 2018, driven by a shared vision to strengthen cancer care in Uttar Pradesh. The Trust pledged Rs 250 crore for the initiative, which evolved into the development of a comprehensive cancer treatment center within the KNMH campus.

Although the project experienced delays during the Covid-19 pandemic and subsequent regulatory hurdles, it regained full momentum in 2024 when the Tata Trust reaffirmed its financial and institutional commitment. Construction began shortly after, setting the stage for one of the region’s most advanced cancer care facilities.

Modern Infrastructure and Expanding Departments

According to Hospital Director Dr. Hariom Singh, two key departments—Nuclear Medicine and Radiology—are already functional, while additional units, including Medical Oncology, Surgical Oncology, and Radiation Therapy, are under development. The entire project is expected to be completed by the end of 2026.

Built at an estimated cost of Rs 250 crore, the facility will provide comprehensive cancer care under one roof—from diagnosis and treatment to recovery and research. Once fully operational, the hospital will cater not just to Prayagraj but to patients from neighboring states as well, significantly reducing the need to travel to metros for advanced care.

Technology That Saves Lives

At the heart of the hospital’s transformation is its adoption of next-generation medical technology. The PET-CT scanner enables early detection of even microscopic cancer cells, while the high-speed MRI unit enhances precision for complex cases like brain and soft tissue cancers.

In the near future, KNMH plans to introduce radioisotope therapy, a targeted treatment that uses radioactive materials to destroy cancer cells with minimal impact on healthy tissue. Such technologies, once limited to top-tier institutes like Tata Memorial Hospital, are now accessible in Prayagraj, redefining cancer care for thousands of patients.

A New Hope for North India

For decades, Kamla Nehru Memorial Hospital has served as a trusted healthcare institution in Prayagraj. With this latest upgrade, it aims to become a major hub for cancer diagnosis and treatment across North India. The hospital’s renewed focus on early detection, personalized treatment, and compassionate care will bring relief and hope to countless families battling cancer.

Once the full facility is operational, KNMH will stand among India’s leading oncology centers, providing care that meets global medical standards while remaining accessible and affordable for patients across the region.

Conclusion

The launch of the advanced cancer treatment facility at Kamla Nehru Memorial Hospital marks a turning point for healthcare in Uttar Pradesh. Backed by the Dorabji Tata Trust’s Rs 250-crore initiative, the project combines innovation, expertise, and empathy to create a future where quality cancer care is available to all.

With cutting-edge technology and a dedicated medical team, KNMH is not only transforming cancer treatment in Prayagraj but also reshaping the landscape of healthcare in North India.
